Mera Peak Climbing – 19 Days Himalayan Expedition

Mera Peak Climbing 19 Day Overview

Warm greetings from Nepal. We warmly invite you to join us on this exciting Mera Peak Climbing expedition, a true Himalayan adventure to the highest trekking peak in Nepal. Located in the remote Hinku Valley of the Makalu region, Mera Peak rises to 6,476 meters (21,247 feet) and offers a perfect blend of trekking, culture, and high-altitude mountaineering.

This carefully designed 19-day expedition is ideal for fit trekkers who want to experience a real Himalayan summit with experienced guides, full logistical support, and a strong focus on safety. With its non-technical route and breathtaking summit views, Mera Peak is one of the best introductory climbing experiences in Nepal.

The Story of Mera Peak

Mera Peak holds a special place in the history of Himalayan exploration. The peak was first successfully climbed in 1953 by British mountaineer Colonel Jimmy Roberts and Sen Tenzing, a Sherpa climber. Colonel Roberts later became known as the “father of trekking” in Nepal and played a major role in opening the Himalayas to trekking tourism.

Their ascent of Mera Peak demonstrated that high Himalayan summits could be reached without extreme technical difficulty, making such peaks accessible to adventurous trekkers. Since then, Mera Peak has become one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal, attracting climbers from around the world who want a true Himalayan summit experience.

Remote Himalayan Journey in the Hinku Valley

Your journey begins in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic mountain flight to Lukla at 2,860 meters. During peak seasons, flights may operate from Ramechhap after a short drive from Kathmandu.

From Lukla, the trail leaves the busy Everest Base Camp Trek route and enters the peaceful Hinku Valley. This remote region offers pristine forests, alpine meadows, and traditional Sherpa and Rai villages such as Paiya, Pangom, Ningsow, and Kothe. Along the way, you stay in local teahouses, enjoy warm meals, and experience authentic Himalayan culture.

Acclimatization, Practical Training, and Summit Preparation

As the trek continues, you reach Thaknak and then Khare, the main base area for Mera Peak. Here, you spend important acclimatization days to prepare your body for high altitude.

During these days, our experienced climbing guides provide practical mountaineering training, including crampon use, ice axe techniques, rope safety, and glacier travel skills. This ensures every climber is fully prepared and confident before the summit attempt.

From Khare, the route crosses the Mera La glacier to Base Camp at around 5,300 meters and then to High Camp at approximately 5,800 meters. The final summit climb begins before sunrise and requires endurance, determination, and teamwork.

Summit Views of the World’s Highest Mountains

Standing on the summit of Mera Peak is a truly unforgettable moment. From the top, climbers enjoy panoramic views of five of the world’s highest mountains:

  • Mount Everest (8,848.86m)

  • Lhotse (8,516m)

  • Makalu (8,485m)

  • Cho Oyu (8,188m)

  • Kanchenjunga (8,586m)

The sweeping Himalayan panorama is one of the finest summit views in Nepal.
